Mecca in Saudi Arabia, the holiest city for Muslims, of course has many hotels for groups to accommodate the millions of pilgrims who visit each year.

  1. Tilal Al Naseem

Home to 5,383 luxurious rooms and suites, the Tilal Al Naseem holds the distinction of being the sixth-largest hotel in the world. But like most of the top 20, it’s not technically one hotel, but a handful of smaller hotels grouped together. These are the Park Inn, Millennium, Copthorne, Novotel, Ibis Styles, Adagio and Four Points. Currently the largest hotel in Mecca, it will soon be overtaken by the Abraj Kudai, due in 2019. It will, by some distance, overtake Malaysia’s First World Hotel (7,351 rooms) to become a world-record holder, with 10,000+ rooms.

  2. Swissotel Makkah

Another opulent five star, the Swissotel Makkah lays claim to 1,487 rooms and suites. Classic rooms come with double, king or triple beds and measure 38 metres squared. Meanwhile, the Swissotel Junior Suites come complete with living room, dining room and separate bedroom, with sofa beds available. They cover a staggering 64 metres squared, There are also two restaurants on site: The Al Ruwad Restaurant and The Al Ruwad Tea Lounge, both serving delicate Arabic fare.

  3. Anjum Hotel Makkah

Once again a luxurious five star on our list of Mecca hotels for groups, and with resplendent architecture and gorgeous interiors, the Anjum Hotel Makkah has 1,743 rooms and suites, with suites ranging in size from the 52 square metre Junior Suite, to the humongous 180 square metre Presidential suite. The latter option has two bedrooms and a separate living room. Among the four dining options is the Umm Al Aura Restaurant, which offers a wide selection or Turkish, Asian and Oriental buffets, plus a wide variety of world cuisine.

  4. Makkah Hilton & Towers

The final five star on our Mecca hotels for groups rundown is the Makkah Hilton & Towers, which has 614 rooms and suites, a shopping mall with 450 shops, two prayer halls and four restaurants and cafes! Suites are designed in an Art Deco-style and feature a living room, dining area and kitchenette. The hotel enjoys an enviable location in front of the Haram Mosque, or ‘The Great Mosque of Mecca’, with King Abdulaziz International Airport one hour away by car.

These vertigo-inducing group hotels are all at least 300m tall, housed within stunningly futuristic buildings – and of course, all boast sensational views.

These staggeringly tall group hotels are perhaps not best suited to travellers with a fear of heights!

  1. 85 Sky Tower Hotel – Kaohsiung, Taiwan

Measuring 347.5m and shaped like the falling pieces of a Tetris game, the 85 Sky Tower is one of the most remarkable buildings in the world, and the most iconic in Kaohsiung. Therein lies the 85 Sky Tower Hotel.

It’s known for its harbour views, Japanese, Chinese and Westin-styled dining options and incredibly powerful elevators that move 600m per minute! Family rooms are suitable for 3-4 guests.

  2. Rose Rayhaan by Rotana – Dubai, UAE

Clocking in at 333m, the Rose Rayhaan by Rotana is the first of our three group hotels located in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The hotel has 462 rooms and suites across 72 floors, plus the Bodylines Fitness and Wellness Club, which has a gym, an outdoor rooftop pool, plus a sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.

The hotel occupies floors 79 to 93 of this unique, instantly-recognisable building, which is shaped like a bottle opener. Group hotels don’t have to be gargantuan in size: this one has just 174 rooms, but some are suites: the Chairman Suite, for example, covers 194 sqm and has two oversized beds. Like everywhere in the hotel, the indoor infinity pool offers spectacular views, while the Water’s Edge spa offers massages and has a Hammam, sauna and Jacuzzi.

  4. The Gevora Hotel – Dubai, UAE

Group hotels don’t come any higher than The Gevora Hotel, literally! According to The Independent, it officially took the title in February 2018, standing at 356m, inching ahead of Dubai’s JW Marriott Marquis (more on which in a moment). It stands 50m taller than The Shard, the tallest structure in London, and 56m taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The Gevora has 528 rooms across 75 floors, and is known for its solid gold revolving doors, four health clubs and two restaurants. The aforementioned Rose Rayhaan by Rotana is right next door, while the Burj Khalifa, officially the tallest building in the world, is 10 minutes away by car.

  5. JW Marriott Marquis Dubai – UAE

Believe it or not, the previous world-record holder for the tallest hotel in the world is only a metre shorter than The Gevora Hotel! It boasts 82 floors and 1,608 rooms divided equally across two symmetrical, futuristic towers. The two-bedroom Penthouse Suite on the top floor has city and sea views.

Be sure to check out the heated outdoor pool, complete with underwater speakers, the Saray Spa and the 15 food and beverage options, including cocktail bar Vault on the 72nd floor. According to the hotel, all the outlets combined can seat 2,743 people. The jewel in its culinary crown is Indian restaurant Rang Mahal.

  1. Hyatt Regency Chicago

Officially the largest hotel in Chicago, and one of the largest hotels for groups in the world, the Hyatt Regency Chicago has a staggering 2,019 rooms; among them 93 suites and parlours. The hotel is as centrally-located as they come; many of the city’s star attractions are a stone’s throw away. 2. Palmer House, A Hilton Hotel

The second largest hotel in the Windy City is Palmer House, a Hilton Hotel, which lays claim to 1,641 rooms. It’s perhaps most famous for its grand, opulent lobby, complete with Tiffany chandeliers. As a member of the Historic Hotels of America, it is recognised by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of the finest hotels in the US. Sample seasonal American cuisine at the hotel’s own Lockwood Restaurant, or grab some comfort food at Potter’s Chicago Burger Bar.

  3. Hilton Chicago

The third largest hotel in Chicago, and one of its most historic hotels for groups, the 1,544-room Hilton Chicago opened in 1927. Among these are 13 recently-renovated hospitality suites, ranging from 800 to 1,400 square feet. All boast views of Lake Michigan and have a living room area. From the Paris Marriott Rive Gauche Hotel to the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile, these trusted hotels for groups are used to hosting large parties

Experience the City of Light with a contemporary twist in one of these large Paris hotels for groups – including the French capital’s only skyscraper hotel

  1. Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile

The charming central Paris skyline is largely unbothered by tall, modern structures, with most clustered in the business district of La Defense. Thus, when it comes to Parisian hotels for groups within modern skyscrapers, the four star Hyatt Regency Etoile, built in 1974, is an anomaly.

Located a five-minute walk from said business district – as well as from the I’Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees – it is, in fact, one of the tallest structures in town, standing at 190m with its spire. (To put that into perspective, the Eiffel Tower is 300m).

The building accommodates 995 rooms across 34 floors, with decor that is smart but stylish following a 2012 renovation. Its best selling point is undoubtedly its unique views of the city, but be sure to check out the on-site health club.

  2. InterContinental Paris – Le Grand

Meanwhile, the landmark five star InterContinental Paris – Le Grand has just five floors – but still manages to boast 470 rooms, including 72 suites, thus taking up a whole block in the heart of Paris! The location, right opposite the Palais Garner opera house, is spectacular.

It’s a truly historic hotel with a storied history; since opening in 1862, it’s hosted everyone from Salvador Dali to Orson Welles to Christian Lacroix.

It’s a destination for throwback glamor and opulence, but it’s also committed to a quietly modern take on luxury: the hotel’s last major renovation was in 2003, and another is currently ongoing. (‘We are committed to ensuring that you are not impacted by the work in progress,’ reads a statement on the website.)

  3. Paris Marriott Rive Gauche Hotel

With 757 rooms, including 51 suites across 18 floors, the Gauche Hotel doubles up as a conference centre, and thus has 55 meeting rooms.

The decor is sleek and unfussy, while the rooms have a contemporary look and feel: think floor-to-ceiling windows and rain showers. Logistically speaking, this one of the most family-friendly hotels for groups, with suites and adjoining rooms available.

R’Yves, the hotel restaurant, serves French bistro dishes, but there’s a wealth of restaurants to try at nearby Butte-aux-Cailles. The entrance to the fascinating Catacombs of Paris is also within walking distance.

  4. Le Méridien Etoile

The Le Méridien Etoile lays claim to a mammoth 1,125 rooms across nine floors, including 22 suites; add to this 16 meetings rooms and a total of 2,092 square metres of meeting space, and what you have is the largest of all of Paris’s hotels for groups, designed in a mid-century modern style.

Built in 1972 and situated in the 17th arrondissement, the location is both leisure traveler-friendly (the nearby Avenues Champs-Elysees is great for shopping) and great for business travelers (it sits across from the Paris Convention Centre).

In addition to the on-site fitness centre, and the Ma Chère & Tendre steakhouse, the hotel has the Le Meridien Jazz Club, often offering live entertainment.

  5. The Westin Paris-Vendome

Last on our list of hotels for groups is the Westin Paris-Vendome; like the Le Méridien Etoile, it a Marriott property, this time laying claim to 428 rooms. Found in the centre of town in the 1st Arrondissement, the world-famous art gallery The Louvre is a 12-minute walk away, while the Musée d’Orsay is just 11.

The authentic French fare at the hotel’s Le First restaurant, with its charming courtyard, comes highly recommended, as does a a treatment at the opulent Six Senses spa.

These are the most ridiculously gigantic hotels for groups in Sin City – starting with Palazzo + The Venetian Las Vegas, which has 7,117 rooms!

In Sin City, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to huge hotels for groups: here are four, including the all-suite Palazzo + The Venetian Las Vegas.

  1. Palazzo + The Venetian Las Vegas

All hail the second-largest hotel in the world, which boasts a mind-boggling 7,117 rooms across 53 floors. Offering a taste of Italy in the Nevada desert, it was officially the world’s largest hotel from 2008 until 2015. However, it’s since been pipped to the post by Malaysia’s First World Hotel, which lays claim to 7,351 rooms.

Hotels for groups don’t get any better than this: it’s an all-suite stopover, meaning you’ll never be wanting for space; many rooms are multi-level with full length windows. In fact, the standard rooms are among the largest on the Strip.

  2. MGM Grand Las Vegas + the Signature

Before the Palazzo + The Venetian Las Vegas took the title, this was the largest hotel in the world for 13 years. Another all-suite stopover, it’s as well-known for its emblematic, 45-tall bronze lion statue at the front entrance as for its 6,852 spacious, apartment-style room options.

There are indeed numerous accommodation types to choose from here, from the Signature, a condo hotel which sits adjacent to the MGM Grand and opened in 2006, to the 29 private villas located within The Mansion at MGM Grand.

Opt for the MGM if you can’t get enough of gaming, dining and entertainment (such as Ka, the permanent Cirque du Soleil show); opt for the more laid back Signature if you want reprieve from the hubbub.

  3. CityCenter

You could arguably say five hotels for groups unite in this urban complex or ‘city within a city’, covering 16,797,000 square feet. The only way to explain how it operates is to break it down into five parts, or rather, five towers: ARIA (61 floors,), Vdara (57 floors), Mandarin Oriental (56 floors) and Veer Towers (each 37 floors). The total number of rooms is thus 6,790.

Each tower offers countless features and attractions. The ARIA Resort & Casino alone is home to 16 restaurants, 10 bars and lounges, a two-level, 80,000-square-foot spa, and of course, 150,000 square feet of gaming. All of the 568 suites here range in size from 520 to 2,000 square feet.

  4. Wynn Las Vegas + Encore Las Vegas

You can expect two hotels for groups in one with Wynn’s Vegas offering, and five star luxury across 4,750 rooms and two towers. The iconic curved building that is that is Wynn Las Vegas, with its luxurious copper tinge, was opened in 2005 and has 2,716 rooms and suites. Its sister property Encore followed in December 2008, and has 2,034 all-suite rooms.

Once again, your every whim will be catered for: there are two spas, two full-service salons, a retail esplanade featuring luxury boutiques (think Cartier to Chanel), an 18-hole golf course, a 60,000 square foot beach club, and even wedding chapels! Perhaps the coolest detail, though, is the Tulips sculpture in the Wynn Theater rotunda, from acclaimed US artist Jeff Koons.

You’ll recognise these hotels with rooms for groups, from the Chateau Marmont in LA to The Park Hyatt Tokyo, from the following award-winning films.

From Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, as seen in The Hangover, to Timberline Lodge, as seen in The Shining, check out these famous hotels with rooms for groups.

  1. Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, USA – The Hangover

It was already one of the most famous hotels in world. But the star of Caesars Palace ascended further with its starring role in raucous comedy The Hangover. The movie is about a bachelor party (that includes Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis) that checks into Caesars’ Augustus Tower, and promptly goes out of control.

The Palace is home to a mind-boggling 3,960 rooms for groups, not to mention a hair salon, a nightclub and no less than seven swimming pools as part of the Garden of the Gods Pool Oasis. Be sure to try out the hotel’s most iconic restaurant, Mr Chow, as featured in the film, and known for its Champagne trolley and moving ceiling sculpture called The Moon.

  2. Chateau Marmont, Los Angeles, USA – La La Land

One of the most iconic buildings in Los Angeles, the Chateau Marmont was built in 1929, and his since hosted some of the world’s biggest celebrities. Lindsay Lohan and Greta Garbo all but moved in.

In the Oscar-winning La La Land, you get a unique insight into just how perfect the property’s rooms for groups actually are. At the climax of the film, when you see the beautiful home of main character Mia (played by Emma Stone), this is actually the interior of one of the Chateau’s villas.

Chateau Marmont also appeared in Almost Famous, which starred Kate Hudson.

  3. The Plaza, New York City, USA – Home Alone 2

Like Chateau Marmont, the iconic exterior of the Plaza, just off NYC’s Central Park, is French-inspired. The interiors, including the many spacious suites, complete chandeliers and park views, are equally classy and classic.

The Plaza has appeared in many a film and TV show: everything from the romantic comedy Bride Wars, starring Anne Hathaway, to HBO’s seminal series Sex and the City. However, it’s perhaps best known as the hotel of choice for little Kevin McCallister from Home Alone 2. In the film, when his family are boarding a plane to Miami, Kevin accidentally boards one to the Big Apple. Among his many adventures in the city, he checks into The Plaza with his father’s credit card!

  4. Park Hyatt Tokyo, Japan – Lost In Translation

Located atop Shinjuku Park Tower, the fifth tallest structure in Tokyo, this five star stopover was the perfect setting for the epic yet understated emotional drama Lost In Translation, starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. It occupies the top 14 floors of the 52-storey building, and director Sofia Coppola used the hotel extensively in the movie that ignited her career.

The Best Original Screenplay Oscar winner sees faded movie actor Bob and young, lonely newlywed Charlotte form an unexpected connection while staying at the hotel.

The Park Hyatt Tokyo boasts 177 rooms, including 23 suites, plus a cutting-edge fitness facility and a library, plus a wide range of restaurants bars and lounges, including the New York Grill, and for Japanese cuisine, Kozue.

  5. 5 Timberline Lodge, Oregon, USA – The Shining

One of the most critically-acclaimed horror movies of all time, Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining of course starred Jack Nicholson as the writer who loses his mind while housesitting the Overlook Hotel with his family one punishing winter.

The novel, by horror maestro Stephen King, was inspired by The Stanley Hotel in Denver. However, the iconic scene-setting aerial shots were of Oregon’s remote Timberline Lodge, which sits peacefully (or eerily, depending on viewpoint) at 6,000 feet, half way up the imposing Mount Hood.

The hotel has several rooms for groups, including medium chalets, accommodating seven people, while the larger chalets sleep up to nine.
