3 Generations of Burchfields: Works from the Schoene Collection

This year not only marks the 50th Anniversary of the Kenan Center in Lockport, but the 51st anniversary of a landmark in the history of the Kenan House Gallery. The exhibit titled, THREE GENERATIONS OF BURCHFIELDS: WORKS FROM THE SCHOENE COLLECTION, opens April 30 with a public reception from 2:00-5:00 p.m. The exhibit will bring together for the first time the works of Charles Burchfield, both of his daughters, Catherine Burchfield Parker and Martha Burchfield Richter, and his grand-daughter, Peggy Richter Haug. Gallery hours are M-F, noon-5:00 p.m.; Sundays, 2:00-5:00 p.m. The Gallery will also be open Saturdays, May 6 and June 10 from 2:00-5:00 p.m., and during 100 American Craftsmen, 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. June 3, and noon-5:00p.m. June 4. The Gallery will be closed May 7 and 21, and 27-29 for Memorial Day weekend.

PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature

The 13th edition of this celebration of international literature focuses on countering bigotry, misogyny and xenophobia through the theme “Gender and Power.” Along with readings, dance performances, art exhibitions, talkbacks and lectures, the seven-day festival will feature events that engage participants in critical discussions and activism. Venues include theaters, bookstores and museums across the City; Samantha Bee, Trevor Noah and festival founder Salman Rushdie will be among the scores of artists and activists participating.


Mobile Mondays! NYC 45’s at The Bowery Electric

It’s nothing but an old-fashioned good time at this free shindig, where DJs spin 45s of the funk, soul, punk, new wave, pop, salsa, rock, calypso, reggae, R&B and disco varieties (plus, we’re sure, a few genres they forgot to mention).


Collective Design Fair

Featuring an array of art and design venues, this design fair will feature installations from the Noguchi Museum, Huniford Design Studio and the LAB at Rockwell Group, which will design an undulating passageway at the entrance of Skylight Clarkson Square. The four-day event features programming from innovators in the design and art worlds.
