The City Segway Tour is a good way to get acquainted with a big and hilly city like San Francisco. The advantage of the Segway is that you get the same close “eye level” view of the city as you would walking, but you are able to cover more ground and get more comprehensive picture of the layout. The City Segway Tour website at City Segway Tour allows on-line booking of the $70.00, three hour tour.

The tour lasts for three hours, travelling first the mostly flat streets of the financial district. You will see the famous Parrots of Telegraph Hill, the original Levi Strauss factory and the TransAmerica building. You will then head down to the waterfront to see the Embarcadaro and all the famous sites in San Francisco Bay- Alcatraz, the bridges, historical boats and piers.

For more than 35 years, the 750-foot-tall Tower of the Americas has offered residents and tourists of San Antonio, Texas, the most breathtaking view of the Alamo City – visitors dine at the Tower’s revolving restaurant or enjoy the scenery from the observation deck. Now, Landry’s Restaurants, Inc. has taken the experience to a whole new level. Among the improvements are an upscale eatery, banquet facility and a Texas-themed 4-D, multi-sensory theater.

The tower weighs 80 million pounds, and has 952 steps to get to the top. The “top house” is so well balanced that it takes just a 1 horsepower motor to rotate the structure. The tower’s restaurant at the top is named “The Eyes of Texas”. The “top house” (the round revolving structure at the top of the tower), is 76 feet tall. The height of the concrete shaft (which is partially hidden inside the top house), is 605 feet tall. The external observation deck can accommodate a maximum of 340 people, while the internal deck can accommodate 500 people. At 800 feet-per-minute, it takes only 43 seconds for the elevators to climb to the top. The restaurants occupy 10,150 square feet, the observation levels are 8,800 square feet, while the stairs, elevators, and mechanicals occupy 1,150 square feet.

The 18th-century mission church where Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and 188 others waged their last stand against the Mexican army for Texas independence has become a state symbol. The most famous historical site in Texas, the mission has been restored to its original condition and offers tours, relics of the past, and a gift shop with memorabilia for history enthusiasts.

More than 2.5 million people a year visit the 4.2 acre complex known worldwide as “The Alamo.” Most come to see theold mission where a small band of Texans held out for thirteen days against the Centralist army of General Antonio López de Santa Anna. Although the Alamo fell in the early morning hours of March 6, 1836, the death of the Alamo Defenders has come to symbolize courage and sacrifice for the cause of Liberty. The memories of James Bowie, David Crockett, and William B. Travis are as powerful today as when the Texan Army under Sam Houston shouted “Remember the Alamo!” as it routed Santa Anna at the battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836. The Alamo has been managed by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas since 1905. Located on Alamo Plaza in downtown San Antonio, Texas, the Alamo represents nearly 300 years of history. Three buildings – the Shrine, Long Barrack Museum and Gift Museum – house exhibits on the Texas Revolution and Texas History. Visitors are welcome to stroll through the beautiful Alamo Gardens. Just a short distance from the River Walk, the Alamo is a “must see” for all who come to San Antonio. The Alamo is open every day of the year except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Our hours are 9:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. Monday through Saturday and 10:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. on Sunday. To better serve visitors, the Alamo will remain open on Fridays and Saturdays until 7 P.M. during the months of June, July and August.

The Riverwalk is a MUST DO in San Antonio!! Get on at the RiverCentre Mall and take the 30 minute journey through San Antonio. A great way to see this vibrant City (Bexar county residents get a generous discount – show your ID when purchasing tickets).

Although the main downtown area is only 1 mile in a circuit, the river extends much further north and south. The depth varies between 2 and 5 feet in the ‘controlled’ section between the floodgates, but is much deeper – between 19 and 24 feet outside. The control gates are raised during storms to prevent the shallow section from flooding.

As you enter the Pioneer Memorial Museum, you literally walk back into history. Here are the belongings of a hardy pioneer people who migrated 2,000 miles west across the plains from Nauvoo, Illinois, and from all parts of the world to seek religious freedom and to build a great city of Zion in the Salt Lake Basin.

The artifacts of the pioneers may surprise you. While the museum displays plenty of necessary objects fashioned out of the scarce resources available in Utah, the pioneers also leave a material record of remarkably ornate decorative arts. They carefully tended their luxury items — as small and delicate as crystal salters or as large and cumbersome as pianos — all the way across the continent. The museum displays many of these treasures that reminded them of “home” or their loved ones they were leaving behind. Also, pioneer craftsman were astoundingly adaptable to the materials available in Utah, making gorgeous pine furniture and painting it in a fashion that makes it look like more expensive wood, such as mahogany. Early Utahns also owned some of the finest goods available at the time, brought in either with ox team or by railroad later. From rugged, homemade utilitarian objects to elaborate Victorian decor, you can see the full range of the material record of the resilient pioneers at the Pioneer Memorial Museum.
